In Honduras, hundreds of defenders have been threatened and murdered for demanding respect for their rights and the rights of others. A visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders opened up a forum for Honduran human rights defenders to recount the attacks and threats they suffer in their daily work in defense of land and territory, political rights, and sexual and reproductive freedom. Most of those who testified at the forum were women human rights defenders who face a double burden of risk due to discrimination. Despite their vulnerability, they lead many of the most significant and dangerous battles for defense of rights.
